A satisfactory Seraing for a recovery against Verlaine

The conclusions of a first preparation meeting are always ephemeral, and those drawn after the success of Seraing on the lawn of Verlaine (1-2) will certainly be. The Sérésiens did not yet have their best legs, tired by a week of training including the two sessions on Friday given in oppressive heat, and they had, at the same time, to assimilate the new precepts of their trainer.

José Jeunechamps began his new adventure with a system that he particularly likes (3-5-2) and a clear construction: find the gap among the three defenders and quickly launch the game forward thanks to vertical circulation. This recipe made it possible to bring danger in front of the opposing goal, despite a last pass which sometimes left something to be desired.

“In the first 60 meters, we have already seen movements worked on in training. These are only starters but I appreciated the way we approached this meeting”said the coach.

This good state of mind allowed Seraing to quickly take the lead, first via a penalty from Marius caused by a cross from Kilota deflected by the hand of an opposing defender. The second achievement was more aesthetic with a one-two in the large rectangle which allowed Antoine Bernier to send a powerful shot into the top corner. For the rest, the Sérésiens did not create a lot of danger, except via one or the other shot from distance which hardly worried the Verlaine goalkeeper.

“These are just the first steps, so don’t get carried away. This game was just part of our first week of preparation.”

This encounter held greater significance for some players.

Currently in test, Merveille Goblet played the second half… without really having the opportunity to show off. He gave voice to direct his young defense, captured a few balls without danger and could not do anything on a magnificent lob from thirty meters from Noah Mievis, which undoubtedly scored one of the best goals of his career. No decision has yet been made for the goalkeeper, who will accompany the group on a training course in Metz from this Monday.

The many young players lined up – the eleven of the second period was mainly made up of U21s – also tried to catch the eye of their coach. Most understood that the level required to evolve with the professionals was much higher, but the performances of Elias Spago (20 years old), who already had the opportunity to show himself a few times last season, and Matteo Renzulli ( 19 years old), who came on board in the last match of the classic phase, were very interesting.

The first was solid on the left side of the central defense while taking care of his raises, while the second, established just in front of the defense, ran a lot while being the first raiser for his team. They deserve to be reviewed in the face of tougher opposition. From Saturday, in Wiltz?
