In the popular classic film “In a class of its own” Tom Hanks once coached the historic women’s baseball team with Geena Davis and Madonna in the early 1990s. Amazon also dedicated itself to the story based on real events and developed a series adaptation. With the original US title “A League Of Their Own”, the historic women’s baseball league, starts on August 12th on the streaming service Prime Video. A first trailer takes a brief look at the eight-part series starring Nick Offerman ( “Parks and Recreation”) as (new) coach.

The action is based on true events and takes place in the USA in the early 1940s: In times of war, male professional baseball players are few and far between as they fight for their country in Europe. This is how the idea of starting a women’s baseball team came about. A talent scout goes in search of young talent and finds it, while a women’s coach builds a baseball team. The athletes fight for recognition and the establishment of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in the USA.

Like the film, the series tells the story of a generation of women who dreamed of becoming pro baseball players. Issues such as racism and sexual identity take center stage as baseball players make their own way onto the field and lay the foundation for their own league.
