A bad start to the game weighs on the Jays

The Blue Jays got off to a bad start against the Minnesota Twins and they were never able to come back to score. The Toronto team therefore lost 8 to 6 on Sunday at the Rogers Centre.

The visitors benefited from a bad day at work from starter Kevin Gausman (5-4) and defensive players to register five points in their first two at bats. Mistakes by the Jays cost two points, and timely singles did the rest of the work.

The gunner of the Queen City club finally played only three sets and two thirds. He returned to the dugout after giving up five runs, three of which were earned, on nine strikes from the safe and one free pass. The Twins extended their lead late in the game, thanks to homers from Trevor Larnach and Gary Sanchez.

“We’ve been playing well recently, but games like this are going to happen,” said Bo Bichette, whose comments were reported by the Sportsnet network. We just have to make sure we don’t make it a habit. Our game was a bit sloppy, that’s for sure.

“It was cloudy and then all of a sudden the sun came out,” manager Charlie Montoyo said. I’m not defending my players, but this isn’t the first time athletes have dropped balls. It’s been happening for 100 years, but it sucks when it happens to us and it costs us two points like it did in the first set. This proved to be an important factor in the result of the match.

A brief ascent attempt

The Blue Jays still pleased their fans in the ninth inning. Santiago Espinal expelled the ball out of bounds, with two teammates already on the trails. The hopes of a comeback, however, ended there. Coming in relief to face the last batter of the Jays, Jovani Moran took the opportunity to sign his first save in major league baseball.

Previously, George Springer, Alejandro Kirk and Matt Chapman had stretched their arms at the Blue Jays. The three athletes respectively hit their cannon shot in the first, fourth and seventh innings.

The Montoyo troupe will try to get back to winning ways this Monday, in the first of a three-game series against the Royals in Kansas City.
