One thing no one can take away from King Solomon Hicks: the 2021 Blues Music Award for Best Upcoming Artist Album (Harlem). The Blues Music Award, presented in Memphis, is considered the highest honor that can be bestowed on musicians and songwriters in blues music. On June 5th (Sunday) fans can look forward to the appearance of the only 27-year-old at the Schöppinger Blues Festival.
The American is still quite young, but already a veteran. His mother gave him his first guitar lessons when he was six years old. He played music before he could read music.
Musical guest with the New York Knicks
Solomon Hicks was just 13 years old when he played blues guitar at New York’s Cotton Club. A year later followed his first recording with the Cotton Club All-Star Band. He toured not only through the USA, but also through Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Mexico and the Bahamas, among others. His mother had to accompany him when he was so young. At the age of 15 he played for the NBA basketball team New York Knicks.
