Yoni Buyens (ex-Standard and Genk) retires from football | Lower classes

Yoni Buyens has finally hung his football boots on the hook. That made ex-club Standard Liège known in a tweet. The 34-year-old Buyens played more than 200 matches in the Belgian first division.

Two years ago, Buyens already said goodbye to professional football at Lierse-Kemperzonen, the club where he also had his training. After two seasons with first provincialer Zepperen-Brustem, he now completely stops as a player.

In his best years, Buyens played for the Belgian top clubs Standard and Racing Genk and also briefly ended up in the English Championship with Charlton. In addition, KV Mechelen and Westerlo are on his list of former teams.

The midfielder was known for his great running ability and also regularly scored a goal.
