WTA Rome: Teichmann reverses Rybakina for quartz files – rts.ch

Jil Teichmann (WTA 29) will play the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome. The Seelandaise won 6-7 (3/7) 6-3 7-5 ahead of the Kazakh Elena Rybakina (17) in the 3rd round.

Jil Teichmann came back from afar before winning her 6th success of the year against a member of the world top-20. Rybakina indeed served to win the match at 5-4 in the 3rd set, before losing the last 3 games of a game that lasted almost 3 hours.

The Kazakh, who had been crushed 6-3 6-1 by the left-handed Zealander in the round of 16 in Madrid, nevertheless tried everything in the “money time”. She indeed obtained a medical time-out as she was about to serve to stay in the match at 5-6 in the decisive set…

Angry, Teichmann was able to keep her cool, even if the physio took some 5 minutes to reach the Pietrangeli court of Foro Italico. The 24-year-old Swiss won 4 of the last 5 points, ending this match on her first match point.
