World Cup qualification: Fifa lets scandal game repeat! – Football

Decision made!

The World Cup qualifier between Brazil and Argentina (early September 2021), which was canceled after a corona scandal, will definitely be repeated! This was announced by the world football association Fifa on Monday.

The Fifa Appeal Committee thus rejects the complaints of both countries – and confirms the decision made by the Disciplinary Committee in mid-February.

“After examining the submissions of both parties and considering all the circumstances of the case, the Fifa Appeal Committee confirmed the replay of the game and the fine of 50,000 Swiss francs (around 48,000 euros, ed.) due to the game being abandoned had been imposed on the two associations,” the statement said.

In addition, the fine imposed on the Brazilian association CBF for violations of regulations and security will be reduced to 250,000 Swiss francs (around 238,000 euros). The fine imposed on the Argentine association AFA for similar breaches of duty is reduced to 100,000 Swiss francs (around 95,300 euros).

What happened? The World Cup qualifying game between the two teams was interrupted after a few minutes on September 5, 2021 in São Paulo and then stopped. At that time, officials from the Anvisa health authority had entered the field to take three Argentine players off for alleged violations of corona regulations.

Fifa then initiated disciplinary proceedings against both national associations. Both CBF and AFA then appealed.

Brazil and Argentina have already qualified for the World Cup in Qatar from November 21st to December 18th.
