Women’s Euro: The list of 23 Bleues with Katoto and Renard, without Henry, Le Sommer or Hamraoui

Corinne Deacon has decided. And the coach of Les Bleues, who on Monday unveiled her list of 23 players selected for Euro 2022 (July 6-31), decided not to call back Lyonnaises Eugénie Le Sommer and Amandine Henry. In great shape for several months, but absent since November 27, 2020 with the blue jersey, the latter had had a personal dispute with Deacon, the two not hesitating to answer each other via the media. Viviane Asseyi (Bayern Munich, 55 selections) will also miss the event.

Kheira Hamraoui will not play the Euro either. Victim of an assault with an iron bar in November and in cold weather with a large part of her teammates at PSG, the midfielder was not called by Deacon. Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Kadidiatou Diani will obviously be there, as will Wendie Renard (OL), who will take her place in central defense.

“I have choices to make, I will assume them until the endassured the coach (…) We have been working for a while with this group, which has also qualified for the next 2023 World Cup. We have managed to find a balance for a few months with experience and youth. Asked in the 1 p.m. news on TF1 about the absences of these executives, Deacon explained that “the choices were difficult (…), like any list”, and admitted that “these players performed well” and “the blue jersey represents something extraordinary” for them, but “we can’t just rely on one-day performance, it’s a long-term job“.

She recalled “the common objective with the players, to meet at Wembley on July 31 for the final” and win the first title in the history of the French women’s team.

Perle Morroni, who has become a club substitute, will not play the Euro either. Selma Bacha was preferred to him as left-back, along with Sakina Karchaoui. The Bordelaise Ella Palis, selected in her place in April, is summoned. Goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin, deprived of her usual understudy Solène Durand (injured and forfeited), will be supported by Bordelaise Mylène Chavas and by Messina Justine Lerond, D2 player holder in the French under-23 cage.
