Why did Aguada denounce Peñarol before the FUBB Penalty Court on Friday at 8:59 p.m.?

Aguada denounced Peñarol last Friday at 8:59 p.m. before the Court of Penalties of the Uruguayan Basketball Federation (FUBB). The denounced events had occurred on Monday on the occasion of the first semifinal that both dispute for the Uruguayan League. Why wait until the last minute? Because the club sought to exhaust all the mechanisms so as not to be the plaintiff, but encountered a regulatory impediment and uncertainty before a deeply sensitive subject that led him to take that initiative.

The only complaint filed by Aguada was for aggravating chants on behalf of the Peñarol fans who claimed responsibility for the death of two teenage fans of the club, a tragic event that occurred 13 years ago.

The incident occurred on Monday of last week at the Antel Arena, after Peñarol comfortably beat Aguada 92-59.

While Nicolás Borsellino gave a note to Daiana Abracinskas, in the VTV broadcast, part of the Peñarol fans sang: “They all came, you are missing two.”

With these “two” they alluded to Rodrigo Núñez, a 15-year-old player in the club’s training, and Rodrigo Barrios, a 17-year-old fan, murdered on May 8, 2009 at the hands of Peñarol supporters who accompanied partial of August 25 to a match against Nacional set at the Aguada field.

The first semifinal between Aguada and Peñarol was refereed by Andrés Lauhle, Julio Dutra and Martín Rial who, both after the match and in a subsequent extended report, presented a series of complaints that have not yet been aired.

Peñarol receives Aguada this Tuesday at the Palace

In the middle of the game, both resorted to referents from Peñarol and Aguada to try to appease their fans. Gonzalo Berretta, coordinator of the Peñarol youth team and head of the Peñarol first team, and Germán Cortizas, institutional coordinator of Aguada, had to go to appease their supporters in the middle of the game.

“The complaint made by Aguada was attached to what the judges denounced and is in the orbit of the Court of Penalties”, they told Referee from the FUBB.

Aguada wanted to know what the judges and the FUBB security officers denounced. The intention was to find out if the chants had been reported, because in that case they were not going to do anything and were simply going to wait for the ruling to be resolved.

However, the Court explained that by regulation I couldn’t give him a view of the complaints.

“This is not a complaint because we are against Peñarol,” said Daniel Olivera, now president of Aguada.

“We exhausted all the instances, we asked to have access to what was reported, we were told what the regulatory reason was that prevents it and that is something that will have to be changed between the clubs that are the ones that voted for the rules. But we did not want an issue that It is so sensitive for the institution, for the people, for the neighborhood and for the families, it will go unnoticed. We are not the clubs that have to denounce. It will be the judges or those in charge of security, but given that impossibility and uncertainty we had to do it We know how popular clubs are that sometimes drag a tiny minority that can cause these problems ‘because it has happened to us,’ he added.

In the party program Oro y Carbón radio that is broadcast by Sport 890, Evaristo Gonzalez, Secretary general of Peñarol and president of basketball he was upset before the complaint: “Aguada ended up denouncing us in the game we played at the Antel Arena, I think among the greats the code would be nooh well, they just opened a door where if the complaints come, the complaints go. So, who is favored in big fans like ours? No one”.

González especially asked the Peñarol fans to behave appropriately: “Tuesday is going to be a unique show, we are all going to be together once again in basketball, but please let’s do it with the corresponding conscience. Let’s respect the situations. The most opposite that Peñarol has is death, Peñarol is life. The songs of death have nothing to do with it, those things are not from Peñarol. Peñarol is achieving success, achieving glory, seeing a child or grown-up people crying for an achievement. Damaging all that with songs of death, aggression and insults is not for Peñarol fans.”

“There was a whole movement for Peñarol to lose and be removed from the championship. It’s not fair,” González denounced without revealing more details. “The gigantic effort, the support we have from 99% of the fans, for a 1% that hurts the club, I don’t know what they think they are but they end up hurting the club, all the effort when you see that you have the potential of a team that wants to go further, losing everything due to problems in the stands does hurt. We have to work so that that doesn’t exist in the stands. We have to win on the pitch”, he concluded.

Peñarol won the first semifinal 92-59 at the Antel Arena and 91-86 at the Aguada court. If he wins this Tuesday he will get into the finals with Biguá.
