Werder Bremen rises, HSV defies fate this time

Werder Bremen wins against Jahn Regensburg and goes straight back to the Bundesliga. And HSV? The Hamburger turn the game in Rostock and secure the relegation place three. In the relegation, the Hanseatic League will play two games against Hertha BSC for promotion.

Werder Bremen is returning to the Bundesliga after just one year. The green-whites won their last second division game against Jahn Regensburg 2-0 (1-0) and thus made promotion like FC Schalke 04 a week earlier perfect. In front of 41,000 spectators in the sold-out Weser Stadium, Niclas Füllkrug put coach Ole Werner’s team ahead in the tenth minute. Marvin Ducksch (51st) made everything clear after the break. After the final whistle, the joy on the Osterdeich knew no bounds.

Werder was wide awake from the start and took an early lead through Füllkrug. But then you could tell the nervousness of the hosts. Not much went together in the game going forward, on the other side the freely playing Regensburgers had one or the other chance. Only after the change of sides Ducksch cleared all doubts with the 2:0, the rest was a party in green and white.

HSV can also celebrate. The Hamburgers won 3:2 at Hansa Rostock and secured the relegation place third. In the relegation team fights against Hertha BSC for promotion. It was once again a drama that HSV offered its fans in Rostock.

In front of 26,000 spectators in the sold-out Ostseestadion, right-back Nico Neidhart gave Rostock the lead (13th minute). HSV striker Robert Glatzel equalized with his 22nd goal of the season (50′) with a header. At this point, the Hamburgers were still fourth. Captain Sebastian Schonlau (75th) and substitute Mikkel Kaufmann (85th) increased to 3:1. In injury time, Lukas Fröde reduced the lead to 2:3 (90+1).

After three unsuccessful attempts, the former Bundesliga Dino saved what was hardly a chance to return to the top flight. At the end of the season, Hamburg crowned their race to catch up with five wins.

Darmstadt 98 suffered from the Hamburg victory. Despite the sovereign 3:0 against SC Paderborn, the Darmstadt team ended up in fourth place in the table. On the goal difference decided in favor of Hamburg.
