Record winners Real Madrid have won the Champions League for the first time since 2018. But Toni Kroos spoiled the desire to celebrate with critical questions. Outraged, he broke off an interview and disappeared.

Five-time Champions League winner Toni Kroos from Real Madrid broke off a TV interview after beating Liverpool in the final. “You had 90 minutes to think about sensible questions and then you ask me two shitty questions,” replied the ex-world champion in the winner’s interview on ZDF shortly after the 1-0.

The 32-year-old was asked if it was surprising that Real came under so much pressure in the final on Saturday night at the Stade de France.

“It’s not surprising that you’re in trouble against Liverpool,” said Kroos. “What kind of question is that, you’re not playing a group game somewhere, we’re playing the Champions League final.” After the approach of another question, Kroos simply walked away and scolded: “It’s really bad, really bad.”

Kroos did not take the previous question well. “What’s a matter of course. We put up a great fight, we knew Liverpool were a great team,” Kroos replied, whether the win wasn’t so obvious given the course of the game.

ZDF expert Per Mertesacker, who became world champion with Kroos in Brazil in 2014, said after the interview: “I’ve also experienced negative questions after a positive outcome.” During the World Cup eight years ago, after beating Algeria in the round of 16, Mertesacker expressed his anger at questions and said the sentence that has become legendary in German football: “First of all, I’ll lie down in the ice bucket for three days.”
