Tom McEwen at the top of Badminton: ‘It’s a shame Toledo didn’t run such a test in Tokyo’

After the success at the Tokyo Olympics last year, Tom McEwen brought his Toledo of Kerser (by Diamant de Semilly) today at the start in Badminton. At the prestigious eventing competition, the duo scored 76.60% in dressage and are thus in the lead after day 1 with 23.4 penalty points.

“It’s a shame Toledo didn’t run such a test in Tokyo,” says Tom McEwen with a laugh, who was part of the gold team at last year’s Games in Tokyo and also won individual silver. “Toledo ran fantastic today. The half-passes were great, he was loose in his body, kept a good rhythm and it was fairly clear. It’s great to be back in Badminton.”

Kitty King en Mollie Summerland

McEwen has a 1.4 penalty point lead over Kitty King and Friday Biats (by Winningmood), who scored 24.8. Mollie Summerland is just 0.1 penalty point behind King with Charly van ter Heiden (v. Contendros Bube).
