Club Athlos not only triumphs with its homegrown players. The best example is the recent Spanish Badminton and Parabadminton Championships in the senior category held in Madrid. The team from Ourense, made up of Sara Ezquerro, Laura Valverde, Antonio Iglesias, Javier Álava and Ignacio Fernández returned from the national event with three podiums.
In para badminton, Ignacio Fernández doubled the medal. He renewed his individual title in the WH2 category and in men’s doubles WH1-WH2 he reached the runner-up position, losing only in the final against Jorge López and Francisco Montero 21-15 / 13-2½1-10.
In badminton, a new silver medal, in this case in women’s doubles. Sara Ezquerro and Laura Valverde reached the match for the gold, in which they could not overcome Nerea Ivorra and Claudia Leal by 21-5/21-14.
Only one step away from the podium was Antonio Iglesias, who reached the quarterfinals in which he lost to Carlos Piris (CB Granollers) by a tight 21-17/21-19.
In men’s doubles, Javier Álava teamed up with Rodrigo Sanjurjo (CB A Estrada) and lost in the round of 32 against José Luis Martín and Alberto Perals (Alicante) by 21-16/20-22/21-16.

Perfect weekend for Ignacio Fernández, who has become one of the classics in the positions of honor in national events and who is already seen in the final rounds of international events.
