The joint offer of Latvia and Finland includes one game set and two quarterfinals, which will be held at Arena Riga, while Tampere will host the Group B tournament and the playoffs, where the tournament will take place. Currently operating (with Helsinki).

As Tampere and Riga became the only candidates, the vote did not take place and no one objected.

The division of teams into groups will become known after the end of the 2022 World Cup.

In April, the IIHF revoked St. Petersburg’s right to host the 2023 World Cup, and Hungary and Slovenia had expressed interest in hosting the tournament, but withdrew their joint application in May.

The World Championship last year in Latvia took place in a closed bubble due to epidemiological restrictions. Fans could not attend. Consequently, the tournament was not attractive to tourists from other countries. There are high hopes that next time everything will be different.

Communication with the LHF and ticket distributors will be important to prepare for the tournament as successfully as possible, and the contribution to the Latvian economy depends on the division of the groups, said Janis Naglis, President of the Latvian Hotel and Restaurant Association.

Latvia also hosted the World Hockey Championship in 2006 before 2021.
