The Nation / More athletes join Rosario Games

The Paraguayan family is enlarged at the III South American Youth Games, in Rosario, Argentina. Today a delegation made up of athletes from athletics, badminton, beach handball, boxing, cycling, fencing, futsal, hockey, weightlifting and skateboarding arrives at the venue.

So far, Paraguay has had an extraordinary performance with tennis, swimming and beach volleyball athletes, winning 8 medals.

The most distinguished is the tennis player Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, who secured the gold medal in singles and doubles, teaming up with Martín Vergara del Puerto. He also won bronze with Leyla Brítez in mixed doubles.

While the extraordinary swimmer Luana Alonso won the gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly, with a record that marks the absolute record of the competition, she also secured silver in the 200-meter butterfly and the 50-meter butterfly.

In women’s beach volleyball, the gold medal was achieved by athletes Denisse Álvarez and Fiorella Nuñez. In men’s volleyball, Camilo Vargas and Ángel Palacios won the bronze medal.

This competition brings together more than 2,500 athletes from 15 countries, including 150 from Paraguay.

The contest will run until May 8, in a sports festival that defines sport as a way to build a healthier, more competitive and peaceful society, far from the weapons that sadden the world with their devastating consequences.
