The men’s curling teams will determine the Latvian champions

The curling season is coming to an end, but the Latvian champions in the men’s team competition are not yet known. Exactly on Thursday, May 12, in the “Curling Hall”, six teams will start the fight for this year’s title in Riga. The semi-final and final games will be broadcast live on TV4 on May 15, the Latvian Curling Association (LCA) reports.

If last spring after the long Covid-19 arcade everyone was longing for curling, with an unexpectedly large number of teams (ten) participating in the championship, this season this number has dropped to six again. Last year, after many years of trying, the champions of “CC Rīga” Mārtiņš Trukšāns became four, who will try to defend their title this weekend. The team of the sports club “OB”, which has remained in the second place for three years in a row, will be in the first place with Ansi Regžs in the skip position.

The junior team of Talsi Curling Club, led by Kristaps Zasas, who showed their great performance (fourth place) in the last championship, will be aiming for medals this year. Their most direct competitor will be the second junior quartet – the “CC Riga” club team led by Robert Bunch. Ritvars Gulbis and his team will also start in the championship inexhaustibly from the beginning of curling in Latvia, who will try to get back in honor of the champion, which they have not won in the last three championships. But the juniors under Kriša Vonda have joined forces with two more experienced players.

The teams will play in one round, after which the first place with the fourth place and the second place with the third place will compete in the semifinals. The winners of these games on May 15 at At 15.00 in the final, the fight for the honor of the Latvian champions will continue, but the losers will find out the owners of the bronze medals.

All games of the championship will be available on the Latvian account of the Latvian Curling Association (LCA), while one of the semi-final matches and the final will be broadcast live on TV4 television and the website, Sportacentrs.com, as well as the Latvian Curling Association’s YouTube and Facebook account.

The Latvian champions will have the right to represent Latvia in the competition organized by the World Curling Federation in the next 2022/2023. during the season.
