ORAN- The 43rd edition of the African Judo Championship, scheduled for May 26-29 in Oran, will be the most difficult in the history of this event, national coach Ahmed Moussa predicted on Wednesday.

“I expect this championship to be the most difficult in the history of this competition, especially for men since all the African champions will be present here in Oran,” Ahmed Moussa told APS on the sidelines. of the last internship that his judokas do in Oran before getting to the heart of the matter.

Despite this, the former Algerian champion remains convinced that his foals “will do everything to shine, despite their lack of experience”.

“As you know, the workforce of our selection has been very young, there are even 20-year-old athletes, because our long-term objective is to prepare them for the next Olympic Games in 2024 in Paris” , he pointed out.

Asked to give his prediction about the number of medals that his proteges could offer for the occasion to Algeria, Ahmed Moussa did not want to dwell on it, contenting himself with saying that his judokas are ready to take up the challenge. .

“We have prepared well for this championship. I am thinking in particular of our last training camp in France, which took place jointly with the selection of this country and which was very beneficial for our athletes. Currently, we are in the final corner of our preparation in organizing this greening to maintain the shape of our representatives, and I can assure you that they are all driven by great determination to bravely defend the national colors”, he insisted.

This African championship will also be an intermediate stage for Algerian judokas before their participation in the 19th edition of the Mediterranean Games (JM) which will also be hosted by Oran from June 25 to July 6, 2022. A test on which Ahmed Moussa did not wanted to dwell on it too much, indicating that “all (his) concentration is for the moment going to the African championship”.

A total of 213 athletes representing 31 countries will be present at this continental event, which will take place at the Mohamed-Benahmed Convention Center, ie 117 men and 96 women. The Algerian national team participates with 18 judokas and judokas (9 men and 9 women), we recall.
