The Chiefs draft Trent McDuffie and George Karlaftis in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft

For the Chiefs, the offseason has been a busy one. In addition to altering his body of wide receivers with the departure of Tyreek Hill and the signature of JuJu Smith-Schuster, KC High School suffered casualties, a situation that has already been resolved in el NFL Draft 2022.

Los Chiefs, who owned two first-round picks, gave up pick 29 (originally from the Dolphins), 94 and 121 to make the 21st spot (originally from the Patriots) and they drafted defensive back Trent McDuffie out of Washington.

For Kansas City it was urgent to add a defensive back considering that in free agency they lost Charvarius Ward, a new element of the 49ers, and got rid of Tyrann Mathieu and Daniel Sorensen. To fill those gaps in the secondary, Brett Veach only signed Justin Reid and Deon Bush.

During three seasons with the Huskies, the 21-year-old cornerback amassed a total 27 games, 71 total tackles, two interceptions and eight passes defensed.

Second pick of the night

With his second pick of the night, pick 30, the Chiefs selected George Karlaftis, a Purdue alum. The defensive end had 97 total tackles (29 for loss of yardage) and 14 sacks in 26 college football games.

For the Chiefs it was urgent to add a quarterback hunter considering that in the 2021 campaign they only registered 31 sacks, which ranked them as the fourth worst team in the league. His best element in that department was Chris Jones, with nine sacks.
