The ‘Azucareros’ were eliminated from the Copa Colombia

Deportivo Cali added a new failure after drawing 1-1 this Thursday against Fortaleza at the Municipal de Techo stadium, in Bogotá, a result that left it out of the Colombia Cup.

For the round of 16, Fortaleza defeated the green team 4-2 on aggregate, after having beaten them as a visitor 3-1 in Palmaseca.
Cali dominated in the first 45 minutes, in which Kevin Velasco and Ángelo Rodríguez were the most important men.

Ángelo played as defined 9 and as such managed to open the scoring in the 9th minute, after a pass from Velasco. The Green and White centre-forward got rid of the mark inside the area and defined with the power of his right leg.

Angelo himself later caused a play that seemed to be a foul against him, but the judge did not sanction a penalty.

In the 35th minute, Cali was able to score the second goal through Jhon Vásquez, whose shot found the Fortaleza goalkeeper well placed.
In the final moments of the first half, the local team pressed in search of an equalizer, who had a couple of dangerous actions against Guillermo de Amores’ fence.

For the 45 complementary, Cali could not continue with Angelo, who had suffered a blow. He was replaced by Carlos Lucumí.

And it was Fortaleza that took the initiative, because although the overall result served to advance to the quarterfinals thanks to the 3-1 victory in Palmaseca, they did not want to lose the game at the Municipal de Techo stadium.
Until he got parity. It was a play from the left in the 65th minute, which Adrián Parra knew how to finish by introducing the ball into the Verdiblanco goal, thanks to a low cross.

Cali did not have the same solvency or control of the game in the complementary 45 that it exhibited in the first half.

The ‘Azucareros’, already out of the League finals and now the Colombia Cup, will face Always Ready next Thursday for the Copa Libertadores, where they have a chance of going to the next round.
