Dominic Thiem will celebrate his Austrian comeback at the Generali Open in Kitzbühel from July 25th to 30th. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 250 clay court classic, which is endowed with 597,900 euros, on Saturday. The 28-year-old from Lower Austria, who will be playing in the Gamsstadt for the first time since winning the title in 2019, will be playing in front of home fans for the first time since October 2020 (in Vienna).

Thiem is playing for the tenth time in an ATP tournament in Kitzbühel, where the ex-US Open winner set many milestones in his career. First ATP points, first match at ATP level, first final (2014) and first title on home soil.

“We know Dominic loves to play in front of a home crowd. We will do everything we can to bring the best atmosphere in the stadium and hope that he can take this momentum with him and build on old successes in Kitzbühel, ”said tournament director Alexander Antonitsch in a broadcast. Thiem will be in good company, but no other names in the field of participants want to be revealed for the time being.

In Geneva at the start against qualifiers

Next, Thiem will compete at the ATP 250 tournament in Geneva and will face a qualifier in round one. That was the result of the draw for the clay court event on Friday. The Geneva Open starts on Sunday. Since qualifiers are still in action that day, Thiem will not start before Monday. The top star in Switzerland is the Russian Daniil Medvedev. The Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka (37) canceled his appearance on Friday.

Thiem had recently lost his fifth appearance in Rome after his long break due to a wrist injury. In Geneva, the dress rehearsal for the French Open in Paris will take place for the Lower Austrian.
