The Roman beats the transalpine Cuenin and hits the main draw of a Grand Slam at the first attempt: he is the only Italian to overcome the qualifications. The draw tonight

Four of them took the field this morning in the decisive qualifying round of Roland Garros but only one blue managed to earn a place among the greats. This is Giulio Zeppieri, who in his first experience in qualifying for a Grand Slam hits the main draw by defeating the home player Sean Cuenin (no. 595 Atp). Two sets were enough for the Roman born in 2001 to establish himself with a score of 6-3 6-4, and silence the French public at the end of an hour and 26 minutes of competition. To make the difference for the Italian two simple breaks, one per set, arrived in the sixth game of the first set (4-2) and in the seventh game of the second (4-3).

THE OTHERS

Luca Nardi’s race for the main draw stops at the best, after being in the lead 6-3 4-2, he suffered the incredible comeback of the Spaniard n.8 of the seeded Bernabe Zapata Miralles, victorious 3-6 6-4 6-1 in an hour and 57 minutes of play. Alessandro Giannessi, on the other hand, was unable to complete his comeback against the Austrian Sebastian Ofner, who won in three sets 6-4 1-6 6-2 in less than two hours of match. Also eliminated in the third qualifying round Franco Agamenone, surrendering to the Czech Zdenek Kolar in two sets 6-3 6-4, in an hour and 29 minutes of play. Despite these results, there would still be hope of appearing in the main draw for the eliminated blues. Following the forfeits of Gael Monfils, Jan Lennard Struff and Roberto Bautista-Agut will in fact be three lucky losers rescued from qualifying.

THE DRAWS

The main draw of the second Grand Slam of the season will be drawn tonight at 7pm. Title holder Novak Djokovic covers the first seed of the event, while the second is represented by Russian Daniil Medvedev. Thanks to the forfeit of the Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut – struggling with a wrist injury – Lorenzo Sonego will be present in the draw as seeded no. 32. In addition to today’s qualifier, Zeppieri, together with the Turinese at the starting line in the French capital there will be four other Azzurri: Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti, Fabio Fognini and Marco Cecchinato.
