Tennis: “I would like it”, Yannick Noah possible coach of the Paralympic team at the Paris Games

What if Yannick Noah resumed service? Currently in media promotion for the release of the documentary “the meaning of winning”, which will be released on May 20 on Prime Video – two days before the first exchanges on clay at Roland-Garros -, the champion and singer of soon 62 years landed Wednesday morning in the chair of Télématin. Questioned by Thomas Sotto, the one who remains the last French player to have won the French Open, 39 years ago, did not rule out a return to the blue jersey of the French tennis team. More exactly that of the French Paralympic team for the Games in Paris in 2024.

“I may have a role, a role that is close to my heart, confides the calm voice, the omnipresent smile, the one who remains one of the favorite personalities of the French. A friend, who is a wheelchair tennis champion, asked me to be the captain of the French wheelchair team during the last Tokyo Games. I accepted, he’s my friend, but it was too late. With the pandemics it was not possible, there were problems with the papers. »

It was therefore far from Tokyo – probably from Cameroon where he returned to live and where he became the village chief in Etoudi, a district of Yaoundé – that he witnessed the triumph in the doubles final last summer of Stéphane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer, already crowned in 2016.

But in 2024, the one who won the Davis Cup three times (1991, 1996 and 2007) and the Fred Cup (in 1997) as captain, would see himself back in his seat in two years. “I would like it,” says the person concerned. As a player, Yannick Noah was never able to compete in the Games.
