Suspect heard about possible assault on deceased footballer Lukoki

The police have heard a first suspect in connection with the possible assault of the deceased professional football player Jody Lukoki. A spokesperson confirmed this to the NOS after reporting by De Telegraaf.

The man was questioned yesterday and then sent home. He remains a suspect in the case. According to De Telegraaf, it concerns MMA fighter Victor K. He was previously a suspect in the case of the murder of Esther Paul. Her body was found in April 2017 in the Veluwemeer near Biddinghuizen. K. was released due to a lack of evidence.

K. would have been present in the house in Almere where Lukoki was possibly mistreated a week before his death. The police will hear at least three or four suspects this week about the abuse of the footballer. After that, the findings of the police are sent to the Public Prosecution Service and it is decided whether to prosecute.

Connection with death is not established

Lukoki (29) died in hospital last week after he had clashed with relatives and a friend a week earlier, according to Het Parool. It is still not certain whether the possible abuse of the professional football player is related to his death. That should show section.

Lukoki played football for Ajax, Cambuur and FC Twente, among others. He spent the last months of his life without a football club after his contract with Twente was dissolved in February. Shortly before that, he was convicted of domestic violence. Last week, several Dutch football fields commemorated the death of Lukoki.
