Surgery for Ben Rortvedt? Tim Locastro, Domingo Deutsch on the mend

CHICAGO- that Yankees were mostly healthy thanks to their best start in baseball 25-9.

Still, some players are recovering from injuries.

Manager Aaron Boone informed them ahead of a crucial 5-1 win over the White Sox in Sunday’s guaranteed rate field.

Ben RortvedtVS

Wound: Unknown knee injury

The last: Boone said Rortvedt may need knee surgery, which shortened his minor league rehab assignment a week ago. The 24-year-old had rehabilitated a right oblique strain with Low-A Tampa that kept him off the court throughout spring training and the regular season. Rortvedt only played two games in the minors before his assignment was ended. Boone said Rortvedt will be team doctor Dr. Visit Christopher Ahmad. The Yankees did not specify which knee gave the receiver trouble. “It’s something he’s grappled with in the past,” Boone said. “We will see. It could be some kind of surgery he might need to have. But we will see.”

Tim LocastroVON

Wound: Latissimus dorsi trunk (middle to lower back)

The last: Boone did not provide details on Locastro’s rehab or a target date for his return. “He’s actually doing pretty well,” Boone said, “especially considering the injury. It’s more a question of playing to the end, it could end up hurting him badly or costing him the year. So I’m thinking now hopefully it’s a few more weeks but he reacted pretty well when he got injured and made good progress in rehab last week to come back.

German DomingoHPR

Wound: Right shoulder impingement

The last: The German will start live batting practice this week. The Yankees are extremely slow with the German because of his injury history and because, frankly, they don’t need him with his throwing style right now.
