Spurs owner assures franchise won’t move

These are always announcements that create panic among local fans. We recently learned that the Spurs will now play several home games away from San Antonio, to expand their “fanbase”.

Next season, two matches at the Moody Center in Austin, one at the Alamodome, the old club hall in San Antonio (for the fiftieth anniversary of the franchise) and a final one in Mexico City are indeed scheduled.

Except that of course, despite the caution of San Antonio elected officials, some already imagine that a move of the franchise is planned. So owner Peter J. Holt spoke up to dispel those fears.

“I want to reassure: the Spurs are in San Antonio to stay there”he wrote on Twitter. “My family became involved with Spurs in the 1990s when the threat of leaving was real. We didn’t let that happen then, or today. Spurs do not exist without the city and people of San Antonio. »
