While the Dornbirn Indians and the ASAK Athletics separated with a split on Saturday, the Diving Ducks Wr. Neustadt im Second leg of the 2-games-series against the Traiskirchen Grasshoppers.

The west doubleheader scheduled for today between the Hard Bulls Baseball and the Feldkirch Cardinals had to be postponed at short notice due to poor space conditions.

Diving Ducks also win second leg of 2-game-series
After the Diving Ducks Wr. Neustadt already had the upper hand against the Traiskirchen Grasshoppers in the Friday night game, the reigning champions also asserted themselves half a day later in Traiskirchen. Last year’s MVP Tobias Kiefer had to be replaced on Friday due to health reasons and was not available for today’s home game for Traiskirchner.

The guests from Wr. Neustadt opened the scoring in the third inning, but the hosts fought back in the same section and promptly took the 2-1 lead. In the fourth and fifth period, the offensive of the reigning champions really picked up speed and could not be stopped by a pitcher change at the Grasshoppers. In the meantime, the Ducks made it 10:2. Traiskirchen was subsequently able to shorten the lead a little, but was no longer able to jeopardize the sixth win in the seventh game of the Wr-Neustadt team.

Split bei Indians vs. ASAK
Dornbirn caught host Attnang on the wrong foot and took a six-to-zero lead with numerous hits in the first inning. Only after the 8:0 lead of the guests could the ASAK Athletics prevail and score the first two runs against starter Ryan Rupp. But like his counterpart Omar Duenas, Rupp struggled with the external conditions and did not show the usual consistency. The hosts’ first points seemed to be the timely wake-up call. The Athletics fought their way up to 8:8, but the Ländle Indians regained the lead with 11:8 thanks to a 2-run home run by Marcel Theiner, among other things. Max Luger had meanwhile taken over as pitcher for the Indians, but he also had some problems after a good start and the Athletics equalized. While the Indians were unable to score any runs in the seventh game against Athletics Reliver Flo Wilhelm, everything went as desired in return. Marcel Theiner came on for Luger and had to hit a home run against David Brandt. Four hits and a few walks later, Sammy Hackl hit the ball over the fence for a 3-run home run and ended the game prematurely with 22:11 for the ASAK Athletics.

The second game confirmed all suspicions of a pitcher duel. Jimmy Jensen (ASAK Athletics) and Andriu Marin (Indians) plowed through the opposing offense with strike outs. Both teams neutralized each other until the sixth inning. Although the hosts kept putting runners on the bases, Dornbirn’s defense held back at the decisive moment. In the seventh period, Chris Squires came on base with a bunt and the Indians found the gap in the Attnanger defense to go 3-0 with two outs. In the eighth inning, the guests followed up after a hit by Marcel Theiner and scored Lukas Pichler to make it 4-0. The ASAK Athletics didn’t have the right recipe against the Indians’ reliever Chris Squires either and still didn’t find their way into the game. New pitcher Jiri Vavrusa was unable to prevent three more runs for the guests in the ninth inning. The Athletics were denied a comeback and so the Indians secured a split with a 7-0 win in a game that was on the brink for a long time.
