“Sneakerella”: the “Cinderella” wears sneakers

This Friday, May 13, the musical comedy arrives on television Sneakerella” (2022), the new feature film by Disney+ that turns the roles of the traditional “Cinderella” story upside down and pays homage to one of Disney’s most memorable animated films, but modernizes the plot with elements of sneaker culture and pop music.

Under the direction of Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, The protagonists are Chosen Jacobs (“He and Lexi Underwood (“Kira King”), those who live a love story while fighting for their dreams and to achieve them, they must first achieve a transformation within themselves.

A modern vision

For this reason, the young actress expands: “I think that way of reimagining history to project it to today’s children and young people is a success”; this, because “Cinderella” is “my favorite story of hers, I was obsessed with her”, so, when she found out that she would act in the tape “it was an exciting moment”; In this regard, Jacobs added that being in this cast “and being part of a classic that children will see in the future is more than I could imagine.”

forms of expression

For her part, the director and executive producer of the film, Elizabeth Allen, notes that when facing this project it was necessary to “honor that legacy” of the Disney film, “the responsibility of retelling a story that focuses on footwear, but doing it now with sports tennis was not so difficult ”; In addition, she said, through this culture it provided her with “forms of expression” that made it easier to direct characters “of active women, who do not wait for a man to fulfill themselves, and that allowed the roles of the protagonists to be reversed.”

Now, both Jacobs and Underwood have had musical training since childhood, he as a piano and singing student; she as a dancer with an attraction to musical theater; as the young actress says, “it was helpful to bring my Broadway roots to this production, so that I was able to work with the whole great choreographic team and, despite the initial fear, the motivation was more and the experience: magical”.

group creativity

Finally, Rosenbaum highlights that this film is “really unique; in it there is something for all audiences”; Similarly, he emphasized that “Sneakerella” is the result of “group creativity, collaborative work in which we all share ideas about the best way to achieve the goal we seek to project.”
