Fernande and Rafaela Munar not only carry the same passion in their blood, but they are also linked by a dream that they traced from childhood and has to do specifically with classifying the Olympic Games Paris 2024. For this, the two had to go to Europe to carry out a correct preparation and, incidentally, rub shoulders with the best in the world.
Both started this sport when they were barely six years old and, since then, they have not stopped adding gold and silver medals in different competitions: Finland, Canada, Slovenia, Germany, Belgium, United States, Cyprus, Brazil, among other lands. In addition, they have also participated in numerous national competitions.
Curiously, a short time ago the two were once again a topic to play in Peru because they shone at the III South American Youth Games 2022 that took place in the city of Rosario. In total, they won eight medals in the sport they practice, of which five belong to them individually and twice.
Although a year ago the sisters faced each other for the first place in the Junior Badminton Pan American Championship in Acapulco, Mexico City, in the sub-17 category, now they are going for a new goal. “Facing Fernanda in a final is not easy at all because nobody likes to compete against her sister, but on the pitch you forget about that because she is just another rival and you have to win”, Raphael pointed out.
At the moment, the twins have been training in Ibiza, Spain, they confess that they do not stop thinking about the country. This decision to leave the country was not entirely easy, but both come to the conclusion that this effort will be rewarded if they qualify for the JJ. OO. Paris 2024.
“We miss Peru a lot because our roots are there, family, friends, food, but we are clear that it is part of the sacrifice to continue growing. We prepare ourselves for all the events that come, national and international, and nothing intimidates us; at the Rosario 2022 Youth Games we showed that national badminton is at the top”, Fernando said.
Finally, it is important to mention that both Fernanda and Rafaela mentioned that they are grateful for the effort that their family has been making to see them at the top of the sport. In such a way that they made an effort to send them to the old continent and they support it financially.
“I am very grateful to my family because they were always by our side and we want to continue to improve ourselves to reach the Olympic Games and win a medal for Peru, that is our dream to continue training and competing. It’s not easy, you have to make a lot of sacrifice, put aside a lot of things to achieve your goals.” Raphael said.
