Schwarber and Phillies respond after being shut out in New York | Sports

NEW YORK (AP) — Kyle Schwarber hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning, and the Philadelphia Phillies, hitless the night before, beat the New York Mets 4-1 on Saturday.

Shunned in a double zero by five New York pitchers on Friday, when they fell 3-0, the Phillies woke up in the second inning with a single by Nick Castellanos.

Starter Taijuan Walker and reliever Trevor May whitewashed Philadelphia for six innings before JT Realmuto walked with one out in the seventh inning courtesy of Adam Ottavino (1-1).

Schwarber, who entered Saturday batting .164, followed up with a home run to right-center to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead.

Alec Bohm walked and scored when Odúbel Herrera finished off Ottavino with a two-out double.

Rhys Hoskins homered leading off the eighth. Six Philly pitchers combined into a four-hitter spree.

James Norwood (1-0) struck out an opponent during a perfect sixth inning.

For the Phillies, Dominican Jean Segura 4-0. The Venezuelan Herrera 2-2 with an RBI.

For the Mets, the Dominican Starling Marte 5-0. Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor 4-1 with an RBI. The Venezuelan Eduardo Escobar 4-0.
