Sainz confesses: “I’m not driving naturally” – F1 Piloti – Formula 1

For the fourth consecutive time this season, Carlos Sainz was the protagonist of an error that thwarted or ruined his race weekend: after the off-track in the Australian GP and the contact against the barriers in qualifying at Imola and in PL2 in Miami, the Spaniard from Ferrari was again the author of an episode that has increased the controversy against him in Barcelona. In the opening stages of the home race, at Montmeló, the number 55 lost control of the F1-75, thus ruining the opportunity to finish in the top three.

But what is happening to the former McLaren driver? According to Christijan Alberspresent for three years in F1, the main problem would be identifiable in the driving style of the Iberian, different from the one adopted in the Woking team. An opinion that coincides with that of the person concerned, who thus explained his greatest difficulties in an interview with The sports world a few days before the Monaco GP: I’m not driving naturally – admitted the 27-year-old – it’s not easy. You can probably see from the footage that I’m struggling a lot to drive this car and figure out how to get the most out of it. There has been a combination of misfortunes and mistakes on my part, which doesn’t help, but I think it does things will change in the future, suddenly or gradually, but I just have to keep my head down. You can adapt or adapt the car a little more to your liking. These things take time, knowledge and experience, mistakes and trials. This is the process I am in now, as I try to correct it as soon as possible ”.

In an effort to conform to the car quickly, Sainz added that he is taking a cue from his teammate’s driving style. Charles Leclercwhile remaining impressed by its class: “He is driving at a very high level – he has declared – he is doing super, really impressive times, always remaining aggressive in his driving style. I can only admire it and in some respects copy it to be faster: that’s all”.
