The former attacker of, among others, Dinamo Kiev, AC Milan, Chelsea and the Ukraine national football team has been appointed as the first ambassador of the so-called United24, an initiative to collect donations for the restoration and development of Ukraine.

“Andriy has gained a lot of confidence on the international stage with his work and sporting achievements,” wrote Volodimir Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, about the appointment of the former football player.

“He now has a new mission: to tell the world about the events in Ukraine and use his authority to increase international aid to our state. I’m sure it will work,” Zelenski added.

Shevchenko is considered the best Ukrainian player ever. He made 111 appearances for the national team, scoring 48 goals. Until August last year, he was the head coach of the national team. After five years of service, he announced his retirement. According to the former football player, it had been “beautiful.” Oleksandr Petrakov succeeded him as national coach.
