ÖTV sports director: Jürgen Melzer: “The boys do a lot, but often nothing clever”

You are in your second year in office as sports director of the Austrian Tennis Association. An important point for you is the sighting training, which started again this year. What do you value?
JURGEN MELZER: It’s important to me to see what changed over the year, whether ideas were accepted or whether it was a waste of time. In Salzburg and Styria, those responsible have taken things to heart. It’s often about small changes that can make a big difference for players. It’s positive to see them evolving. As an outsider, you often see things that others don’t. And this week I’m in Carinthia. I’m curious what happened. It’s difficult here because there isn’t a performance center yet. Ultimately, I can only make recommendations and have no authority to issue directives.
