Olesen takes an option at the Belfry. Langasque and Brun hang on for a runner-up

Co-leader on the evening of the first round, Thorbjørn Olesen (photo) took control of the tournament after 54 holes thanks to an endgame of anthology and a card of 69 (-3). At -11 (205), the Dane even took a three-point lead over the Englishman Marcus Armitage and the German Hurly Long, on a bad day. At the gates of the top 10, Romain Langasque and Julien Brun (11th at -5) are three lengths from the podium…

L.V.

What a very curious Moving Day on the Birmingham side for Thorbjørn Olesenco-leader with the New Zealander Ryan Fox on the evening of the first round. The Dane has indeed remained “powerless” for a very long time on this mythical route, host to several Ryder Cup between 1985 and 2002.

Bogey conceded on 1, eagle on 5 then again bogey on 10, the winner of the Ryder Cup 2018 au Golf National suddenly came out of his torpor by first slamming a superb eagle on the par 5 of the 17th, even brushing against an improbable albatross, before investigating a putt of 7.50 meters on the green of the 18th for birdie.

On arrival, with this “unexpected” card of 69 (-3) and a total score of -11 (205), the Scandinavian offered himself a three-point lead over his first pursuers. To know English Marcus Armitage70 (-2) today, and the German Hurly Longmissed out on his day with his 73 (+1).

It is somewhat a resurrection for Olesen, 32, who was involved in a sordid story of sexual assault during a transatlantic flight on British Airways in July 2019, returning from WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

Dismissed from the European Tour until the judgment then finally reinstated temporarily in August 2020 after delays in British justice due to the pandemic linked to Covid-19, the five-time winner on the DP World Tour (last seen June 3, 2018 atItalian Openthen stamped Rolex Series) was finally cleared on December 8, 2021 by a London court

This final round of the British Masters 2022 promises to be thrilling nonetheless as ten men stand in just five moves. Among them, we find in ninth place at -6 the Swede Marcus Kinhultauthor of a difficult 74 (+2) but victorious in this tournament in 2019.

Already three times victorious on the European Tour at only 21 years old, the Dane (another!) Rasmus Højgaard points, him, in fourth position at -7 with the Scotsman Richie Ramsaythe Paraguayan Fabrizio Zanottithe South African Justin Waltersstill green at the age of 41, and the American Chase Hannaon a cloud with his 66 (-6) without bogey.

The successor to the Englishman’s charts Richard Bland, who did not make the cut Friday nightis perhaps among them!

The points race for the US Open

Elevenths tied at -5 (211), Romain Langasque (68 with four birdies on his last seven holes) and Julian Brown (71) can claim an accessit that would allow them to earn valuable points in this qualifying mini-race for the US Open in June at Brookline. The first ten in accumulated points and not benefiting from any exemption will indeed validate their ticket at the end of the Porsche European Open beginning of June in Hamburg (Germany).

Seventeenth at -4 (212), Victor Perez is also affected by this nice carrot, especially the Tarbais would often tend to finish his tournaments well on Sunday when he finds himself in an advantageous position… So why not?
