Children from the Capouchiné and Jean-Macé schools (preschool section) take part in the “Basket school” project. Every Monday afternoon, they discover and practice basketball in the Camargue gymnasium.

The project, started in May 2022, was born of a partnership between Habitec and Nîmes Basket. It consists of inviting different classes from neighboring schools to the Gymnase Camargue. They come to discover and practice basketball during school time, under the supervision of educators. The Gymnasium was made available by the City. ” It is beneficial to take children out of schools to provide them with a quality experience,” explains Nicolas Rainville, the sports assistant for the city of Nîmes.

Habitec (promoter builder in the Gard) is a partner in the operation and the agency financed the purchase of balloons suitable for small children, as well as the lessons given by the club’s educators. “It’s a quality socio-sports project and it can encourage vocations among children”, says Karen Wilnkler, general manager of Habitec. “Basket school” is coordinated by Benjamin Vergnet (coach of a men’s team at Nîmes Basket) and he sets up fun workshops for children. ” It’s a win-win for everyone: the children discover this sport in a context entirely dedicated to basketball and the club makes itself known to people in the neighborhood. There are many young people passing by the gymnasium, but who do not know that there is a basketball club here », Estimates Jesus Araiz, the president of Nîmes Basket.
