Niederberger changes near Munich – Sport

EHC Red Bull Munich want to end their time without a title in the German Ice Hockey League by signing national goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger. The 29-year-old comes from the Eisbären Berlin to the Isar, the Munich team announced on Monday. Niederberger moved to the Bavarian capital for the first time in 2013, but left the club for the USA a little later. Since then, the contact has “never broken off, we have always been in a friendly exchange,” said sports director Christian Winkler. “After the door was opened for a commitment, excellent discussions followed with the result that Mathias returned to Munich.”

The 53-time national player was one of the key figures in the polar bears’ final victory against Munich last week. Again and again he prevented goals with strong saves and contributed significantly to the victory. The Munich title hat-trick is now four years ago. “Red Bull Munich has been one of the best teams in Europe for years and operates with a sustainable and long-term strategy,” said Niederberger. “I look forward to the challenge of being successful with a new team in a new city.” In return for the Niederberger transfer, Munich’s Henrik Haukeland could move to the capital. The Norwegian goalkeeper would cushion the loss of Niederberger there.
