NFL: Bears agree to release former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles

The Chicago Bears have released former Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Nick Foles, Mike Garafolo reports. NFL Network.

First-year general manager Ryan Poles and the Bears decided to allow Foles to find a new team rather than continue looking for a trade partner, Garafolo added.

Former Bears general manager Ryan Pace and former Chicago head coach Matt Nagy traded for Foles’ services ahead of the 2020 season to give Mitchell Trubisky a little competition and get the best of both or one of them. When Chicago signed Andy Dalton and drafted Justin Fields ahead of the 2021 campaign, Foles became a high-priced third option. It probably would have been the same situation this season with Fields as the starting quarterback and Trevor Siemian having been signed to be the backup.

Foles has a statue of him in Philadelphia as he led the Eagles to an unlikely Super Bowl championship marked by one of the most spectacular match-fixing games in history.
