Difficult to lift

The weekend on May 13th and 14th was difficult for those responsible for the judo department of SV Mühlhausen. Corona and the associated involuntary quarantine measures ensured on Friday that the trainers and supervisors responsible for Friday training were not allowed on the tatamis (mats) and therefore the training had to be cancelled.
At the same time, the International Savings Banks Cup in Jena, Thuringia, and the Northern Bavarian Championship for U15 boys in Altenfurt were also on the agenda for May 14th. 11-year-old Ronja Stegmeyer (Mühlhausen) went to Jena for her first major tournament, and 13-year-old Dominik Langer (Pollanten) to Altenfurt. Both train three times a week at the district base in Kümmersbruck, at the state base in Altdorf and of course in their home club. Not only were their athletic performances so good that both were allowed to compete in these tournaments, but according to reports, their academic performance also improved.
Ronja Stegmeyer delivered a solid performance in Jena, 290 km away, had to admit defeat to the eventual tournament winner in the semi-finals and thus achieved an excellent bronze place, and as the youngest in her weight class.
Dominik Langer and his trainer Mathias Brinkmann then had the pleasure of making the journey to Altenfurt, which was short by judo standards. After sweets and the like were on the banned list in the last 2 weeks, the start in the 60 kg category was assured. This is where the eight best judoka in northern Bavaria met to determine their champion.
However, the well-known problem arose during the battle for entry into the finals… the concentration waned and the battle was lost. Nevertheless, third place was the reward and the ticket to the Bavarian championship on May 21 in Augsburg.
