The Montilla Municipal Pavilion will host this Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8, the best U-13 and U-17 national volantistas as part of the celebration of the TOP Master for these categories, an event that was planned to take place in the Jaén municipality of Arjonilla and that, finally, will allow to enjoy the future national promises of this sports modality in the Cordovan Countryside.

This tournament, one of the most important for the base of Spanish badminton, will be the first TOP Master in these categories, which will make Montilla the epicenter of this sport, bringing together dozens of volantistas from all over Spain. In this way, according to the president of the Montilla Badminton Club, Blas Casado, this TOP Master is classified as a ‘n2’, only surpassed by the TOP Final Master, so the quality of the tournament is assured.

In total, up to 109 players (148 registrations) from 40 different teams will land at the Montilla Municipal Pavilion to try to win the long-awaited gold medal. Among the participating entities, 13 are Andalusian, which is the case of Almería, Arjonilla, Baena, Benalmádena, IES La Orden, Granada, Huelva, La Encina, La Unión, Montilla, Rinconada, Rute and Volante Rute.

The competition will begin on Saturday at the Municipal Pavilion of Montilla at 10:00 in the morning, and will end at around 19:30 in the afternoon, the time of the last match scheduled for the quarterfinals. This TOP Master n2 will continue on Sunday with the semifinals and finals, which will crown the champions.

Regarding Montilla’s participation, the president of the Montillano club explained that there will be two players in the tournament, Miguel Carrasco and Miguel Aguilar, who will play in doubles being already classified among the top 20 in Spain in Sub-7. In addition, Miguel Aguilar has already managed to get into the individual box, “which shows that we are getting results with the schools even though this is not our priority goal,” he said.

The vice president of the Andalusian Badminton Federation, Antonio Aguilar, also wanted to emphasize that this championship comes to Montilla not only because it is a strategically located town in the center of Andalusia, but also because “it has appropriate facilities and support from institutions, two aspects that are fundamental for this type of event”.

In this sense, the Sports delegate, Miguel Sánchez, stressed that “Montilla is betting on competitions at the highest level” and thanked the Montilla Badminton Club for their efforts and for getting “that their players are already present in these tournaments”. “It is a championship of this quality, with minor categories, it brings the whole family with it, so the economic repercussion is remarkable and has already been felt,” he asserted.
