Mercedes wants less of a customer – F1sport.cz

Mercedes currently supplies its power units to the largest number of teams – McLaren, Aston Martin and Williams.

“Unfortunately, engine sales are no longer attractive and interesting because the FIA has set a limit that you can charge your customers to protect smaller teams,” Toto Wolff told The Financial Times.

“I’d rather have six (cars) and move the development forward and then produce two fewer engines because you need to produce two fewer engines … plus two spare parts for each team. In an ideal world, I might see the plus two, so a little less. ”

Wolff did not specify a time horizon in which he would like to reduce the number of customers, but it can be expected that this would not happen until 2026, when new powertrains will come to F1 – along with them probably Porsche and Audi. While the first brand is likely to join forces with Red Bull, Audi could work with one of Mercedes’ existing customers.
