Sant Joan DespíHe has won neighborhood football. Street football, the usual one. Levante Las Planas banished Espanyol to the Second Division with goals and fans (3-0). The Sant Joan Despí team has been planted in Primera after leading the northern group of Reto Iberdrola and subduing its direct rival, Espanyol. The white-and-blues could not do anything in front of a dedicated fans, who dyed the stands of their stadium red and did not rest at any time to cheer on the team. The footballers thanked their support and celebrated in communion the historic move to the First Division. A few meters away, the Espanyol players were crying as they missed the opportunity to return to Primera a year after the relegation.
Illusion has been imposed on necessity. The team led by Ferran Cabello has come out on the field with part of the work done. Both the tie and the victory assigned the ticket to the First Division at Levante Las Planas. Espanyol only deserved the victory and, therefore, were forced to come out to bite from the first minute. Although the physical difference between the two sets is obvious – the medical services are very different in a neighborhood club compared to a large one – the local players have not been small. In the first leg they already beat the team led by Rubén Casado (2-4) and now it was time to repeat the feat.
The law of the former has determined the first two targets of the premises. First, in the 30th minute, Letti Sevilla, who played for Espanyol for six seasons, opened the scoring with a header after a corner that drove the stands crazy. Hugs, screams and some tears began to fall: the dream was coming true. The one that, in fact, they didn’t even know they had: the promotion was not a goal for Cabello’s team, but day by day they have been adding victories and now, in the last one, they had to play it.
The second goal came in the second half. A former Espanyol player has also come out of her boots. Elena Julve won the race on defense, got rid of a rival and assisted Emma, who sent the ball to the back of the net. The third was the start of the party that still lasts in Sant Joan Despí. Marta Visa, alone in front of the white-and-blue goalkeeper, did not hesitate and sent the ball inside the goal with all her strength and care. With all his teammates he has celebrated the goal that has sentenced him to promotion to the First Division.
The locker room exits have started to fill up: club people, workers, grassroots coaches … No one wanted to miss the moment when the collegiate whistle blew the end of the grand final. A wheelchair with a beach fridge – yes, those blue ones – full of bottles of cava was already waiting for the moment of total happiness for Levante Las Planas. The final moment was delayed, but once the referee ruled the end of the match, the field invasion was complete. The footballers have flown in the air and hugs and tears have flooded the lawn in a celebration that will be remembered in the history of Catalan women’s football.
