After many years of absence, Kastrup-Magleby Badminton Club, KMB2010, is again to be found in Denmark’s best badminton league. The promotion to the league takes place after KMB2010 swept all opposition off the field and secured first place in the 1st division playoffs. To the great joy of the club and not least Mikkel Mikkelsen, who is playing assistant coach at the club: – The promotion to the Badminton League means a lot to me, and it is one of the biggest things that has happened in my career, says Mikkel Mikkelsen, who came to the club last year.

KMB2010 will in the coming season bite spoons with the country’s best badminton team.

It’s a fact after last season, when KMB2010 won the 1st division’s basic and finals.

All in all, it has been a good season for the traditional club, which after a bad start to the season created momentum.

– It has been a really good season for the team. We started the season out by losing the first two games 4-5, but then there is not a finger to put on our efforts. We won all the important matches, which meant that we scraped many points together, says Mikkel Mikkelsen and continues:

– I think the reason we stand as promoters is that we have been very stable and that we have not fooled ourselves. In addition, I see it as an advantage that we came from the rear wheels. It was not the club’s ultimate goal to move up, so we have been able to play more freely, says Mikkel Mikkelsen, who plays mixed and men’s doubles on KMB2010’s league team.

When Mikkel Mikkelsen was without a contract last year, KMB2010 came into the picture. They believed in Mikkel Mikkelsen and gave him a contract when he needed it most.

Therefore, it means a lot to the Danish national team player that he has been able to give something back to the club.

– When I was in a bad situation last year, Kastrup-Magleby Badminton Club helped me a lot. It’s great for me that I’ve been able to give something back to the club.

After Mikkel Mikkelsen joined the club last season, he has had the role of playing coach, which only makes the promotion more significant.

– The fact that I have acted as playing coach for the team in a promotion season, it’s really big for me. The promotion to the Badminton League means a lot to me, and it is one of the biggest things that has happened in my career, says the European Championship bronze winner.

Both Kastrup-Magleby Badminton Club and Mikkel Mikkelsen have previous experience of playing in the league, therefore they know that the coming season will be a tough one of a kind.

– It will without a doubt be a season where we have to fight with beaks and claws. I have an expectation that it will be a big challenge. But both the club and I are really looking forward to it. We will hopefully go out and tease the other teams, and then we will see how many points we can scrape together, says Mikkel Mikkelsen.

Whether KMB2010 can tease the other teams in the league we will find out next year. One thing is for sure though; KMB2010’s goal for next season is to survive in the league.

– The overriding goal for next season is that we must survive in the Badminton League. We have already started to prepare – we do this both by training hard and by picking up new profiles as reinforcement.

One of those reinforcements is Natasja Antonisen, who comes from the league team Højbjerg / Via Biler.

-We have been approached by Natasja Antonisen. She is a player who can contribute a lot – both on the sporting and social level. She comes with a lot of experience and she is clearly one of the best women’s and mixed doubles players we have at our disposal.

Although reinforcements come from outside, it has also been important for the club that many of the players who helped to move up stay in the club.

– It is important for the club that the tribe from last year stays in the club. Many of the players from the league squad train out here every day, and they help to create the team spirit that is in KMB2010, so they mean a lot to the club, it sounds from Mikkel Mikkelsen.
