JVS Festival – A Gleanings | Judo Association of Saxony

Rabenberg sports park as a Mecca of Saxon judo sports

For three days, the Rabenberg sports park was the center of Saxon judo. For the first time since the association was founded, a JVS festival was held to bring judo enthusiasts together and experience the community. For far too long this had not been possible due to Corona reasons. “It was our intention to set an example after the difficult times. The JVS is alive! With the festival we wanted to motivate, inform and offer the opportunity for exchange at all levels.” explains JVS President Frank Nitzel. The reactions of the participants, who greeted the organizers with a lot of praise and recognition, showed that this exchange was very much enjoyed. Not only the variety of offers on the mat or in the seminar room was actively used, but also the opportunity for the participants to exchange ideas with each other. The latter was more than necessary, summed up many of those present, who eagerly took advantage of the many opportunities between the units and in the evening. Happy faces everywhere, that’s the way it should be.
The festival also had a lot to offer in terms of content. Already the start was more than successful. None other than Olympic champion and world champion Udo Quellmalz opened the festival with a sweaty and entertaining session on the mat, while historical events happened next door in the seminar room: a dozen sports fans got together to found a sponsoring association for Saxon judo! Annett Böhm took over the patronage for this. Further course was then set, on the one hand with the election of the sports district management in Chemnitz, on the other hand with the constitutive meeting of the JVS Kata Commission. Hendrik Schuster continued the practical series on the mat and inspired the participants. The cozy get-together after dinner and the exchange were benevolently accepted, and the reunion with long-missed friends and like-minded people was very much enjoyed. A successful end to the first day.
Day two brought a marathon for the participants, for the speakers, but also for the always in a good mood organization team around Heide Wollert, Lilo Barich as well as Uli and Petra Häßner. The morning started with the joyful morning randori! With license acquisition and extension courses in the areas of trainers and judges, the consultation of thanks and the youth general assembly of the JVS were heavyweight program items on the agenda. In the latter case, Franzi Andreis was re-elected youth leader, Nesrin Becker succeeds Sebastian Pilz as deputy youth leader. But other seminars and courses also fascinated the participants. Norman Großer-Koch inspired in seminars on first aid in sports and on the topic of taping, the internationally successful kata duo Arslan/Sessini impressively taught topics of the kata area. Self-defence with JVS Vice President Uli Häßner can also be a lot of fun (assuming you are not Ulis Uke). The JVS child protection officer Thomas Buchmann gave a lecture on the subject of child protection and sexualized violence in sport and the youth management gave tips on how to deal with children with behavioral problems in sport and suggestions for small physical games for the youngsters. Detailed information was also provided on the DJB’s new graduation system. With the impressions of a long day, many conversations and a lot of laughter were held on Saturday evening. Just as it should be for a festival.
Sunday was all about the General Assembly of the JVS. But even on this day, the participants took the opportunity to measure themselves with like-minded people at the joyful morning randori or to sweat at the practical seminar on “Application tasks in the Dan examination”.
Over the entire weekend, our state coach Freddi Jäde completed a training camp with 40 athletes from the oldest U13 age group, and he also supported them in training and further education. “An amazing program!” Frank Nitzel stated and thanked him and all the other speakers at the festival, the JVS office and his colleagues on the board and main committee at the general meeting of the JVS.
Ultimately, what remains is the memory of a great weekend with excellent speakers, the best conditions, first-class weather, enthusiastic participants and the request of the same to organize such a festival more often.
