Judo second division: hard fought, but still lost: first defeat of the season for the judo team Holten

(JTH) May 23, 2022 – With a 6:8 defeat against the league favorites Bayer 04 Leverkusen, the judo team Holten suffered their first defeat of the Bundesliga season. In both the first and second half of the season, the JTH was under constant pressure and had to chase a deficit. Nevertheless, the people of Holten don’t have to hang their heads. The result against the national top of German judo is more than respectable.

A whirlwind of almost 1.60 m on the mat

Janson Wong -60 kg against Leverkusen’s Khaled Ahmad caused a sensation on the mat right from the start. After none of the fighters was able to score in the regular fight time, the decision had to be made in the golden score. Wong succeeded after 51 seconds. Wong acted just as nerve-racking in the second half of the season when it was again against Ahmad. Here, too, the decision – again in favor of JT Holten – was only made in extra time. After that, the judo team Holten fell behind in the duel between Koppers and Vincent Wieneke -71 kg. Finn Bittscheidt -66 kg against the runner-up at the International Antwerp Open, Moubarak Boulaich, Stephan Sommer -81 kg against Anthony Zingg and Paul Schade -90 kg against Gabriel Berg also lost their games. Two more points for the JTH at the break of 3:4 for Leverkusen Christian Beckmann got -100 kg without a fight and Max Welten +100 kg against Jan-Luca Schatten, who had to give up the game due to injury.

A very strong Max Welten defeated Leverkusen

The rematch was almost a repeat of the first half of the season. Wong won against Ahmad again in the golden score, Koppers lost, now against Kai Lippmann, but controversial from Holten’s point of view: Koppers spun out of a throw by Lippmann without coming to rest on his back. However, the referee saw it differently and decided on Ippon and thus victory for the Leverkusen team. As a result, Beckmann got the point for the JTH again without a fight, Tim Gerpheide lost respectably against Zingg, as did Bittscheidt again against Moubarak Boulaich and Michael Grieß for Paul Schade against Berg. As in the first match, Max Welten managed the last win of the day, now against Marc Schatten. More agile, more imaginative and in better condition than his opponent, Welten dominated the fight at all times. Consequently, he won this game five seconds before the end of the fight time by hansokumake, disqualification, for shadows due to passivity.

On June 18 against Mönchengladbach

In the end there is a 6:8, which “feels like a 7:7”: “We did very well against the national top of German judo. If in doubt, we have to throw twice against the big players in the Bundesliga to get the point. But getting upset about individual referee decisions is useless,” coach Najdowski looks ahead to the next day of the fight on June 18 against Mönchengladbach. Again, this will not be an easy opponent. More information about the club on the club website and up Facebook.
