Judo competition suspended after competitor’s death

Ciudad Juárez.- After confirming the death of one of the competitors of the 2022 National Universiade in the Judo discipline, the National Education Sports Council (Condde) reported that the remaining competitions will be permanently suspended.

At 4:00 in the afternoon the judokas and their coaches were summoned to define the course of the competition and if the activity would resume with the remaining matches of the day this Saturday.

Felix Alberto Capilla, delegate of the Condde, addressed the attendees and reported “to make an announcement by the National Condde, the participation and the judo event are suspended, due to a situation of respect due to the events that we have all just happen”.

He specified that it will be through the regional delegations and coordinations, the administrative procedure will be carried out to inform and publicize the situation of points accumulated at the moment, as well as the awarding of medals.

The athlete David Alejandro Gómez Flores, from the University of Guadalajara, suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest at the end of his individual competition of more than 100 k.
