Jimmy Bell: The good soul of Glasgow Rangers has died – football

The heart of Glasgow Rangers has stopped beating. The Scottish record champion (55 titles) mourns the loss of his kit man Jimmy Bell, who died unexpectedly at the age of 69.

Because Bell wasn’t just a kit man, he was much more for the club. He was a club legend.

Rangers captain James Tavernier (30) writes on Twitter: “The beating heart and soul of our club, the hardest worker, the most dedicated, he was a Ranger through and through. We will always remember him, he will always be with us, we will never forget him!”

Bell worked for Rangers for over 30 years and had cult status among players and fans. He was the confidante for many. Tavernier makes the reverence clear: “Even though he was officially the kit man. He was much, much more than that. Few people are so synonymous with a club these days. He’s been at the Ibrox longer than I’ve lived.”

Giovanni van Bronckhorst (47), who experienced Bell as a player and as a (current) coach, says about him: “He was a friend and a selfless person who embodied everything this club has stood for in its 150-year history.”

When it comes to the second leg in the Europa League against RB Leipzig on Thursday (live from 9 p.m. on RTL + and in the BILD ticker), the Rangers will tear themselves apart at the Ibrox Stadium. You’ll want to give Bell a place in the finals as a farewell gift.
