Jacobo González takes the bronze in doubles

The player from Vigo, Jacobo González, had a day of lights and shadows yesterday in the absolute Spanish Badminton Championship. The athlete, who the previous day had qualified in the individual and doubles modalities for the quarterfinals, saw how he was eliminated at the first change alone, but was later rewarded with a bronze medal along with his partner Rubén García.

In the individual draw, they faced Ernesto Baschwitz, seeded number three in the tournament. Despite having stood up in previous rounds and eliminated another heavyweight from the championship like Valenzuela, the man from Vigo was clearly defeated in two games by 13-21 and 8-21. The doubles draw would start with joy for González and his partner, Rubén García, by defeating the duo formed by Pelayo Lucas Pinto and number one, Adrián Álvarez, by 21-14 and 21-18.

With the pass to the semifinals, he would face his executioner again in singles. This time, Baschwitz was paired with Álvaro Leal. A very even first game, where they had to go to the tiebreaker so that González and his partner scored the first goal 23-21. As a result of that, the rivals reacted to win the two remaining games by 17-21 and 13-21. A hard blow for González and García, who were having a magnificent tournament in the doubles draw but a badly finished second game in the quarterfinals caused them to fall into the hands of their rivals.
