“I don’t remember the number of blows”

For several days, the trial of Laurent Silien has been held before the Assizes of Liège. The 38-year-old from Liège is on trial for the murder of his partner Karine Iskounene, killed at the age of 56 with a baseball bat.

The 30-year-old spoke on Monday. He stated that he grew up with an alcoholic father and mother; during his childhood, he had been placed in a home, in Esneux, then his mother had taken him back. He no longer saw his father, whom he calls his “genitor”.

Laurent Silien lived with his mother until he lived with Karine Iskounene. He did not show himself as diligent in his studies, since he stopped once he obtained his upper secondary diploma. When he and the victim started dating, she was 44, he was 23. Karine had become pregnant with him, but she had a miscarriage.
