Hernández and Hill to COVID-19 list

The Boston Red Sox placed center fielder Kiké Hernández and left-handed starter Rich Hill on the COVID-19 list before Friday’s game at Fenway Park.

“They are going through tests,” said Alex Cora, Boston’s Puerto Rican manager.

“We will have the results probably later. As for the symptoms, they have them, but hopefully there is nothing wrong,” he said.

Hill, 42, pitched a five-inning shutout in an 8-0 loss to the Angels on Thursday. Although he is 0-1 down he sports a good 2.86 ERA.

Hernandez, meanwhile, has had a poor start to the season and is batting just .189 with one home run and 12 RBIs.

To make up for the losses, the Red Sox recalled outfielder Jarren Duran from Triple-A Worcester and selected right-hander John Schreiber.

Duran, 25, a top prospect, was included in the lineup as a center fielder and leadoff hitter to face Chicago.

He was hitting .397 in Triple-A when he was promoted.

Boston is, right now, last in the American League Eastern Division with a record of 10-17, nine games behind the lead.
