Harper and Detmers are the Players of the Week

Bryce Harper not only did he shine for the Phillies but he also managed to stand out from all the outfielders last week. So much so that despite suffering a small tear in the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, he played a memorable game to win the “Player of the Week” in the National League.

The left-hander went 14-for-23 (.609) with three home runs, six doubles, eight RBIs and a 1.904 OPS in six games.

This season, the outfielder is hitting .305/.361/.634 with 24 extra-base hits (nine homers, 14 doubles and a triple), the most in the majors.

It’s the seventh time Harper has won NL Player of the Week, but he’s the first Phillies player to win the honor since Jay Bruce on June 8, 2019.

Detmers stood out for the American League

Reid Detmers was another standout to be named American League Player of the Week. This was announced by the MLB on Monday.

The Angels starter threw a no-hitter against the Rays on Tuesday of last week. Despite striking out just two batters, the 22-year-old limited Tampa Bay to one walk and became just the 25th rookie to throw a no-hitter.

Detmers is the second Angels member to be Player of the Week in 2022, the first being Taylor Ward.
