Table leader Guggenberger Legionär Regensburg consolidated first place in the south of the 1st baseball league with an 11:4 victory against the Mannheim Tornados on Saturday evening. Regensburg only stumbled briefly when Mannheim took a 4-1 lead in the second inning. But the hosts came back and set the course for victory in the fifth round. Game two between the two teams follows on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Eric Harms put Regensburg ahead in the first inning with a sac fly. An RBI single from Merlin Bendlin equalized a section later. A bases-loaded walk and a 2-run double by Leon Still were then responsible for the 4:1 for the Tornados. The Guggenberger Legionnaires were able to shorten directly after an error, but Mannheim initially held the lead.

That changed in the fifth inning. An RBI groundout by Nino Sacasa brought Regensburg to a point. Pascal Amon followed with a 2-run single to make it 5:4. A beam screwed the intermediate score to 6:4. With another five runs in the sixth and eighth inning, head coach Tomas Bison’s team made everything clear.

Alexander Schmidt collected four runs in the game. Sacasa and Harms posted three RBIs each. Christian Pedrol got the win. Ferlon Gisjbertha conceded the loss.
